Finished in time. whew.

Just finished my game for the GMTK 2025 Game jam! Most of the development was done on the road, and I had to pull an all nighter to finish! I'm really pleased with how it came out, though I had my doubts that I would even finish. once again I planned the scope too large and had to remove some perks and dialogue ideas simply because I wouldn't finish it in time.

The theme for the jam was "Loop" which is very broad and invokes plenty of ideas, but I decided I would make a game about loopholes. originally I wanted to make a puzzle game where the player exploits loop holes to win, but that would require the player to come up with the wacky work around. It's much easier to explain the loop hole if the boss can do it when he's tricking you. This made for much funnier gameplay.

The art style for the game was inspired by the fact that I was on the road and literally couldn't draw straight at times! I just decided to go with it and go with a doodle chalkboard look. Overall I think that was a good choice. I guess creativity really does thrive under constraints.

I did manage to finish in time with several hours to spare, though I did end up updating the build 3 times due to last minute edits and bug fixes. I'm writing this after V1.3 where I fixed the bug that would let the game master fly off in the background and explode after a reset! oops.

Full V1.3 patch notes:

  • fixed music bug where music would not resume properly after a reset
  • fixed the falling game master reset glitch
  • fixed the ceiling collisions
  • tweaked the end dialogue
  • shrank the platform to allow for bombs to hit the player better
